Bank Swallow

The Bird Genoscape Project is currently working in collaboration with Julie Hagelin of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Gregory Mitchell and Tara Imlay of Environment and Climate Change Canada, Theresa Burg at the University of Lethbridge, and Sarah Endenburg and Christina Davy of Carleton University to build a genoscape for the Bank Swallow (Riparia riparia). Hand in hand with constructing the genoscape, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is also helping to spearhead efforts with collaborators across the Bank Swallow’s northern breeding range to deploy hundreds of MOTUS tracking units. Coupled with the genomic data we generate, these tracking units can help us to better understand migratory connectivity and non-breeding area usage, as well as where breeding Bank Swallows may be most vulnerable during the full annual cycle.

If you are interested in collecting or donating Bank Swallow samples from any location across their annual cycle, please contact Amanda Carpenter to learn more about how you can contribute to the project!
